On Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, More than 858 runners and walkers and 110 volunteers participated in the 20th annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk held along Meridian Road in Gibsonia.

Jed Christiansen, 24, of Greenville won the 20th annual St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk, setting a course record with a time of 14:49. Capturing first place in the women's division was Danica Snyder, 18, of Butler with a time of 18:54.

The second place overall male finisher was Dan Rabe, 29, his time was 16:11. Third place was David Vaccarello, 21, of Cranberry Twp. with a time of 16:12. The second place overall female finisher was Hillary Boxheimer, 17, with a time of 18:57. The third place overall female finisher was Caitlin Bungo, 18, of Gibsonia with a time of 19:14. All received trophies for their accomplishments.

In the Master (40-49) and Grand Master (50+) categories. Taking first place in the Master were Douglas Basinski, 40, with a time of 17:35; and Lisa Chilcote, 40, with a time of 19:15.

Taking first place in the Grand Master were Dominic Wyzomirski, 50, with a time of 17:48 and Sharyl Relic, 52, with a time of 21:49.

TRACO was the signature sponsor for the 10th year. Trisha Pittman of WPXI-TV and Larry Richert of KDKA Radio were the celebrity emcees. Jessica Ortiz , a 2011 Kean Idol finalist, sang the National Anthem.

A day of fun for the whole family, the St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K boasts one of the greatest post-race parties around. Musical entertainment by Hermie and Harry's Dueling Pianos and more than $2,000 in prizes were awarded to race finishers, and local businesses provided a scrumptious feast of coffee, doughnuts, soft drinks, beer, ice cream, pizza, wings and more.

Proceeds from the St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. The fund supports the poor and low-income patients of St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas. Since its founding in 1900, it has been St. Barnabas' mission to never turn a patient away because of their inability to pay. In 2010 alone, St. Barnabas provided more than $4.7 million in free care.
