Wexford Elementary Students to be Visited by Abe Lincoln
16th president to kick off St. Barnabas' Pennies for Patients campaign

Gibsonia, Pa. - Feb. 3, 2009 - The 370 kindergartners through third graders at Wexford Elementary School, 250 Brown Road, will be visited by the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12. The children will throw a birthday party in honor of Lincoln's 200th birthday during an all-school assembly. The assembly also will serve as the kickoff for St. Barnabas Charities' 12th annual Pennies for Patients campaign.
Pennies for Patients aims to raise more than 3 million pennies to benefit the poor and low-income patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who rely upon the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. President Lincoln and representatives from the Pennies for Patients campaign will encourage the students to contribute to the campaign and will provide them with specially marked Pennies for Patients containers in which to deposit their pennies and spare change. During the interactive assembly, the children will learn fun facts about Lincoln, such as why he wore a top hat, where he grew up and how tall he was.

"We're grateful for the support of Wexford Elementary," said Debbie Panei, Director of Development for St. Barnabas Charities. "This is an opportunity for children to learn the value of helping others. Our patients appreciate the kindness of children in helping them receive their medicine, food and care."

Following the motto "Pennies Do Count," the campaign has raised 20,501,001 pennies since 1998. Donations to the Pennies for Patients campaign support the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund.

To receive a complimentary Pennies for Patients collection container, write to Debbie Panei, Director of Development, St. Barnabas Charities, 5850 Meridian Road, Gibsonia, PA 16044, or call 724-444-5521 or e-mail dpanei@stbarnabashealthsystem.com.
