Corvette Show Raises $1,700 For Pennies For Patients
Gibsonia, Pa. - May 31, 2005 - A Corvette show held Saturday, May 21 at Tom Henry Chevrolet in
Bakerstown to benefit St. Barnabas Charities' Pennies for Patients campaign raised 170,000
pennies ($1,700). That figure was a record for the annual event. The show was sponsored by
Tom Henry Chevrolet and Corvettes of Pennsylvania and featured 40 beautifully restored Corvettes,
vintage Corvettes, and new Corvettes. Games, music and refreshments were part of the day's activities.
Those attending used their spare change to vote for their favorite car.
Winners were:
First place - Allen Lewarchik of Rochester, the original owner of a 1969 convertible Corvette. He received the People's Choice Award, sponsored by CleanTown USA, a high-tech car wash on Route 8 in Allison Park.
Second place - Ted Mavrodis of Monroeville for his 1986 Calloway Corvette.
Third place - Larry Lang of Coraopolis for his 1963 Corvette, a split-window coupe.
All participants in the Corvette show received a dash plaque. The Corvette show was one of many activities held this spring to benefit the Pennies for Patients campaign, which aims to raise 2 million pennies to benefit poor and low-income patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas. Through its Free Care Fund, St. Barnabas Charities in 2004 alone provided more than $5.76 million worth of care.
