Pine-Richland Varsity Wins St. Barnabas Medical Center Roundball Classic

Gibsonia, Pa. - Jan. 19, 2007 - In a hard-fought battle that went down to the buzzer in overtime, the Pine-Richland High School varsity basketball team defeated Mars Area High School 63-60 to win the ninth annual St. Barnabas Medical Center Roundball Classic. The Pine-Richland Rams and the Mars Planets played on Jan. 15 at the Pine-Richland High School gymnasium. It was the sixth time in Roundball Classic history that the Rams won the game but the first time since 2003.

Following the games, Most Valuable Player plaques and team trophies were presented by Dr. Mike Krawczykiewcz, chiropractor with MK Chiropractic at St. Barnabas Medical Center. Capturing Most Valuable Player honors for the Rams by scoring 26 points was Brett Matson. Steve Cress of the Mars Planets was named his team's MVP for scoring 22 points. Rams coach Dave Krakoff accepted the St. Barnabas Medical Center Roundball Classic trophy on behalf of his team.

In the evening's junior varsity match-up, Pine-Richland continued its nine-year winning sweep, defeating Mars 49-24. Pine-Richland's MVP honors went to R.J. White for scoring 8 points and having 4 assists. Brandon Stadelmeyer was named the Mars MVP for scoring 8 points. Pine-Richland JV coach Mike Decker accepted the St. Barnabas Medical Center Roundball Classic trophy on behalf of his team.
